The scandal plagued president of Oral Roberts University resigned this week. He had been accused of lavish spending despite the University's debt His wife was also accused of spending time with young men in different situations around the University. He resigned, he says, against his better judgment but on the advice of God. God told him to resign.
Perhaps God should have told him to stop spending money like a drunken sailor. Perhaps God should have told her that getting a massage from a young impressionable freshman might look bad. Maybe God should have said that getting caviar on the Oral Roberts University dime isn't the smartes thing to do.
On the other hand, perhaps the Roberts family should have looked at what happened to Jim Baker and said, "Crap - we can't use all this money for our own purposes and treat everything like our own." "Crap - all these impressionable young kids coming to our University aren't fair game." But God took his eye off them for just a minute and they ran amok and he had to step in and tell them to quit. At least he didn't strike them down with lightning. Or unleash locusts on the Tulsa campus.
I'm guessing that what really happened is that God looked a lot like Dad (Oral Roberts) or an expensive lawyer and they said "You screwed up get out for the good of the school."
A forum for ranting, raving or simply giving an opinion . Have fun blowing off steam.
