About six weeks ago I read about an incident at the University of Western Ontario. Apparently some young men wanted to celebrate a 19th birthday in residence with a stripper. As strippers apparently won't go to a University residence common room (which strikes me as a smart policy) they were stymied until one of the women in the residence volunteered to substitute. Its tough to know the specific circumstances but I'm guessing (hoping) she's experiencing signficant regret.
Numerous digital photos, her name and home town are now posted all over the Internet. I read the story in my local paper (not more than a paragraph) and googled Western Ontario Stipper and there she was. Difficult to believe she was a spontaneous amateur but . . . . .
Now I did some dumb/crazy things during University. One or two were even captured on 35 mm film. Nowadays even the guys in the background enjoying the stripper are seen glassy eyed and drooling all over the world wide web. The consequences of stupid decisions seem to be much more dramatic today.
Definitely a cautionary tale.

a cautionary tail??
in the National Post today is an article about a similar scandal at McGill. One researcher says that the proportion of females to males (60:40) on most campuses is causing women to got to extremes to attract men. While men have always gotten loaded and done dumb things, this competition has increased risky behaviour for women too. This may have a grain of truth but I remember some wild women when I was at school many years ago. I still think there is a significant measure of information availability that is making everyone think this is happening more. Don't today's parents remember what they did in school? Maybe that's what scares them? Maybe they are just embarassed that thier kids are now posted on the Internet?
they have websites for this now. take a look at
www.drunkuniversity.com
kind of a hall of shame.
